Idea for Neighbourhood Craft Day and Art Sale

Dear Friends, Neighbours & Artists, I am planning to have a yard sale on June 14th. I invite you to either contribute with your own 'booth' or set up a yard sale of your own, enhancing the neighbourhood yard sale experience. The yard sale at 96 Wilson will be a mix of used items and arts and crafts from local artists. <br /> I have a ton of art supplies and will set up an area for people, young and old, to create art of their own, on site. Children are definitely invited to participate, but adult supervision is required - It is not a  read more »

SPP - Deep Intergration with US - Increased Pesticide Allowance

http://www.rightoncanada.ca/site/c.juIZLdMOJrE/b.2561573/k.8F15/Take_Act...

It's hard to believe, but the Harper government, dedicated to ever greater integration of Canada into the US, wants to “harmonize” the types and levels of pesticide residue allowed on fruits and vegetables and in dairy products with those of the US and Mexico. This means lowering our pesticide standards (allowing more use) to that of the U.S.

It's part of plans being made behind closed doors to streamline Canadian standards with often lower U.S. standards, instead of improving our standards to those adopted by the European Union.  read more »

Local Food Cards

Hello Commons!

Rose White (City Farming Project Manager)and I have collaborated on putting together these local food cards. They are up on the website here for you to print off:

http://www.cityfarm.ca/node/58 (1 per page)

http://www.cityfarm.ca/node/59 (3 per page)

These cards are meant to raise awareness in the business/restaurant/farming communities about the importance of local food and it's availability.

We want to see more restaurants, markets and stores providing local food in season. By leaving a card behind after your visit to a restaurant (give to a manager or leave in comments box or on counter) you will let the business know that local food is important to you and local food has added value. Feel free to personalize the cards by adding your own name/message on the back.  read more »

One Woman's struggle to protect her home. People vs Profits

Woman defies Chinese developers

This woman's struggle is bringing the issue of uncontrolled development into the global public eye. Very interesting. Let's see how this ends. Please visit the links below to read the story.

This story may be taking place in China, but the issue is too close to home. Almost every city in the world can relate to the government/developer cohesion. I know we are experiencing it in London! (Urban sprawl, Riverside development, Bradley St Extension, the list goes on and on.)

"If the government does not respect people's rights in the case, it will raise suspicions about the entanglement of civil rights, property development and government interests."  read more »

Canadians portrayed on CNN/Fox

A friend sent me this link. Just makes you shake your head, doesn't it. --Shouldn't we be grateful for all the 'wonderful things' the US are doing for us and the world? Gimme a break. Ah, the ignorance!

THURSDAY OCTOBER 12th 7PM - Silkscreening workshop
143 William Street (backyard studio)
Come on out and learn how to silk-screen. A few of us have had some practice now and want to spread the fun
- or spread paint through a very fine screen if you want to be technical.
Here's what you should bring:

- A pre-made stencil, use vellum or thicker paper and cut out a shape where you want the paint to show on your fabric. Do something simple if it's your first try!  read more »
