Olenka & the Autumn Lovers, wsg. Cotton Jones Basket Ride

The Cotton Jones Basket Ride are a Maryland-based band touring through the area. Their pop is beautiful, melodic, and incredibly infectious. Once you click on the link below and hear their lovely harmonies and sleighbell smoothness, you'll be hooked. You will not want to miss this show. They remind me a bit of the Papercuts. The band leader (Michael Nau) is better known for his band Page France. It's a pleasure and honour to have the opportunity to play with them.

March 21st - Show at London Music Club

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to pass along an invitation to the show that I'm organizing on Friday, March 21st.  Two friends from Vancouver will be opening the night: James Lamb and Jess Hill.  Both of them are good musicians and intelligently introspective songwriters.  It appears that this show will constitute a London debut for a number of the musicians whom I've recently had the pleasure of involving in my backing band.   read more »

Debut of "Our Nation": Thurs. @ Old East Studios

If you like any of the following bands, you will want to come to this show, b/c that is what we (Our Nation) sound like: Sigur Ros, Silver Mt. Zion, Sonic Youth (cf. "Death Valley 69"), Grizzly Bear, the moodier parts of Blur's "13", Explosions in the Sky.

Our Nation will be playing with The Yage Letters, Madripor, and This Ends Now this Thursday (Feb. 21) @ Old East Studios (755 Dundas; across from the Embassy). All these bands are well worth $5, which is how much the show is going to cost.

Our Nation includes members from Olenka, Sick Friend, birdsacrosswater, Pale, the one behind the many, Harvest Chant, ladies magazine plot mascarade, and other great projects.  read more »

Jane et al.'s sound is synth and string driven and melodic; her voice is very delicate and pretty.  My slower more melancholy songs should be a nice complement to her stuff (though there will be plenty of Eastern European singalongs).  read more »

Neat show at the London Music Club on Saturday, Nov. 24th

Hello all,

This is my inaugural posting at the London Commons.  Such a momentous occasion!  Perhaps it requires a toast, or the breaking open of a champagne bottle, or something of that ilk...  Okay, here goes: I'm coordinating a show at the London Music Club on Saturday, Nov. 24th.  It should be an interesting and entertaining event.

Performers include:

Nick Zubeck - based out of Toronto.  An excellent guitarist who has played with numerous Toronto-based musicians including Barzin and Sandro Perri.  His stuff is beautifully dreamy; he's remarkably proficient on his instrument and creates beautiful layers with the many pedals he employs.  Nick may be coming down with his upright bass player, but he'll blow you away, even if he plays alone.  Check out his myspace: www.myspace.com/nickzubeck, particularly his song "Reeds", which is my favourite.  He's also Polish, which is almost always a sign of goodness.  read more »
