LC meeting...

Hey,

So we need to have an LC meeting to discuss a few things as it's been quite a while since our last one.

If anyone who is interested in attending could post their suggested meeting dates/times/places that would be wonderful.

Hope everyone is well,

PEACE!

Any Ideas/ Sponsors/ Help to rebuild Collapsed School in Haiti

If you have not already heard about the horrible tragedy that occured last week in Haiti, please read this article http://thejadedleft.yuku.com/topic/1161.  To make a long story short, a school that did not have adequate funding for it to be structurally sound collapsed on 700 students, killing more than it injured.    It is so difficult to get people the help that they need in a situaton like this.  We can give to red Cross and hope that the proceeds actually get there...  read more »

The Wick Burns in Suspicious Fire

As I was heading home from work last night (early saturday morning to be correct), I could see a huge plume of smoke rising at the south-end of Talbot St.

Fire crews and police had cordoned off several city blocks worth of access, but from what it seemed, the Wick was in flames :(

The picture below (shot during the day) shows the aftermath...

Below is a link to the Freeps article which is currently online, and shall be in tomorrow's paper... (yeah, the freeps sorta sucks, but hey)...

WARNING FOR PARENTS IN LONDON

Yes we can

To the millions of people around the world who jumped for joy upon hearing of Obama’s victory; enjoy this hopeful moment, because it won’t last long.    It’s time to meet the new boss, same as the old boss.  All we’ve done here is replace a white bumbling idiot with an articulate black man, and although that in itself is historic, the ‘change we can believe in’ was just a campaign slogan, not a promise.  read more »

Della Derbyshire: Progenitor of Techno Dance Music

Embedded video:

Progenitor of electronic dance music, as well as an innovator in the art of sampling, Delia Derbyshire demonstrates, in the video above (from 1969), how ahead of her time she truely was. Effortelessely illustrating the basis for contemporary beat mixing with old tapes machines you could almost see her pulling this off live as a DJ. You can listen hear to an experimental dance track that she recorded roughly 30 years ago which resembles a lot of IDM playing in clubs today. Click here to listen to a cool interview with Derbyshire, and here for a BBC article on her legacy.  read more »

Two people's brains are never wired exactly the same way. If you don't see things the way everybody else sees things you build filters for processing the real world differently than other people. And that's what we call invention.

The State of Higher Education

Having been in the education system for 20+ years I have been able to experience the system from many different angles.  From student, to staff, to faculty, I have had the great opportunity to see the much of the system in a relatively short amount of time.

Given my unique position I would hope that my opinion (through this post) on this topic would be worth something seeing as I current occupy the roles of student, staff and educator, simultaneously.  read more »
