The video producers to this new Radiohead video have released the data used to generate the 3D models online at Google Code. Peter Kirn, from CDM, explains:

Radiohead’s new video uses 3D images capture from two scanners – one a close-proximity 3D scanner from Geometric Informatics, another a multiple-laser array for the “exterior scenes” rotating in a 360-degree pattern. That yields just data, not anything you can look at, so the artists created the video itself using the open-source tool we love so much, Processing.

This shirtless fellow rigged up his own device to track stolen bikes and remotely electrocute the thief.  It involves a cheap disposable phone and a stun gun.  To be able to have your stolen bike report home, you'd need to use a cell phone that can do data... and I'm not sure if any of the Canadian mobile telcos actually have any fair pricing for that.  read more »

Would you believe it? Progress is being made with the design of this site. Slowly, but surely. You'll notice that a lot has changed with this site. Overall the design is new, but the site navigation is still quite similar. The development team hope to make London Commons ever more user friendly. So, everything from site navigation to features will continue to evolve as the development team work at refining the new design, building new layouts and reconfiguring the site's functionality.

The Student Movement in Canada is doing some interesting things in terms of changing the way students do business.

Rather than purchasing materials manufactured in sweatshops, from
profiteering enterprises in Canada, and elsewhere, students are doing
business with workers who control their workplace, keep their profits,
and set their hours.
