Smash the Medium, Liberate the Message, Volume 1

This DWD Compilation, featuring 6 short films and bonus material, is “DIY” film making at its best. Filmed in a cross section of locations in North and South America this DVD captures the essence of the modern global justice movement.

Data Reel: Episode 1
Inspired by the newsreels of the past, the Data Reel project uses
powerful audiovisual collages, made-up of original music and spoken
word, to disseminate marginalized information and censored news. (21
minutes)

Tears Down The Wall
A daring guerilla project showcasing the front lines of the Quebec City
Protest of 2001. It was constructed out of 60 hours of audio and video,
the music was built by using actual sounds of the protest. It is
humorous, fast, emotional, and in many ways mirrors the range of
emotions stirred by the protest. It is ultimately about making
significant moments in history simply cool, and accessible to a jaded
younger generation. (21 minutes)

Confronting Empire, World Social Forum 2003
A retrospective piece about the World Social Forum in Porto Allegre,
Brazil featuring Noam Chomsky and Arandhati Roy among others. Although
there was very little attention given to the WSF in North American
media, 100 000 internationals gathered to share their ideas under the
slogan “Another World is Possible”. (10 mins)

Seed Saver: Percy Schmeiser vs Monsanto
Chapters 1 and 2 of the story of a farmer’s last stand, the sacrifices
he has made, the world he has lost and the spirit that has let him
stand up to one of the largest and most aggressive corporations on the
planet. (30 minutes)

The Real Thing: Extended Trailer
The Real Thing is a film that peels away the layers of rhetoric used to
justify the "War on Drugs" and now the "War on Terrorism" revealing a
war between two world's, one global and modern, the other local and
indigenous. (8 minutes)

Also features: Noam Chomsky interview on the Drug War and more …
