Promo for sept 29 Critical Mass

tags:

I will be riding and making a fool of myself, all in the hope of packing the streets on the 29th.  From Monday Sept 25 until the ride I will be hitting the streets of London promoting the Mass ride on the 29th. I am planning on Yoga in Victoria park in the mornings and then food then handing out handbills to every person that I can physically get too. I would appreciate any help that I can get and would greatly welcome anyone who would like to come out with me on any day.

I am praying that this ride will be something that grabs the attention of the city and hopefully opens a window for some form of reform in the city. Cyclists deserve much more appreciation than we get. By riding our bikes we are making a stand. Clean air and healthy living seem right to me and I wish that cycling was seen as a way to promote both in this city.

As of right now I will be in Victoria park at 8 am for Yoga on Monday, and 8 am each day from there on rain or shine.

Peace

Dan might be able to bring his VCR over and tape it at our house, we'll try for that.

Mitch might be able to meet us outside!

I spoke to the nurses at the hospital about this on tuesday, and again this afternoon.  There is a chance that they can bring Mitch outside to see everyone when the Mass gets there!!  He's really excited about it, I hope it works out.  We just have to call when we leave the park to let them know approx. what time we'll be getting there. See you all tonight!

That's Great!

I've been putting up posters on my bike path route and telling everyone I can about the ride.

I am really pumped to go tonight.  Rain or Shine!  See you all there!

Bike Lights ( Critical Mass)

I have a few spare new white front bicycle headlights to help keep a few people on the road who may not have one.
I also grabbed some new C batteries to have them functional for Friday night.
Money is very tight for me right now.... so I may ask for a money donation- if the receipent can afford it. If not- I will just donate a few to those who really need one, but have no cash at all.
If some people could bring some spare C batteries- it will get a few more bicycle lights ready to go.

Thank you

Your help is most appreciated.  Do you know if the law states that riders require both front and rear lights?

Bicycle Lighting

The Ontario Highway Traffic Act specifies all vehicle laws, including bicycles.=========
http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/pubs/cycling/cyclingskills.htm ============
"HTA 62 - Lights - a bike must have a white front light and a red rear light or reflector if you ride between 1⁄2 hour before sunset and 1⁄2 hour after sunrise."

----------------------------
I recommend MORE than that for lighting. The reason for the emphasis on the white front lights is that approximately 80% of ALL collisions occur to the front and front quarters of all vehicles, including bicycles.
Most people are afraid of being hit from behind, but statistically- you most prepare for the FRONT.
Some white front headlights and C batteries will be brought by me.

Cold, wet and dark Critical Mass!

It looks like it is going to be cold wet and dark for Critical Mass tonight. Temperatures should be about 7-9 Celcius and bands of rain come throughout the late day and evening. Any signs should be protected by clear bags or other rain preparations. Dress like you want to ride- no matter what! ------------
I found a nice pile of new white front headlights, but could use some extra C batteries to equip those without lights. I will also grab some bicycle safety pamphlets too!
---------------------------------- I have also obtained a handmade paper mini-book, so that people at Critical Mass could write in comments for Mitch and a visitor can pass it on to him.

Sept 27 Night Core Blitz

Jeff and I will be hitting the core tonight.  We are meeting at the Alex P around 930 10.  We plan to poster all of the bike racks in the core and would welcome any help.

I think that every Bike shop in town has posters now.  If you know of a shop that is sans poster please post it and I will get one to them.

Thanks for the help.  This ride will be great.

Peace

So far

Two Wheels and Cyclepath have posters. Racer Sportif did not want one. City hall, the mayor, councilors and controls all have posters and handbills.  First cycle works will get a poster tomorrow, not open today. I would like to get handbills to MPs and MPPs but didn't think about it earlier.

Handbills are littering the core but there is room for more. I have lots of handbills if anyone needs any please contact me.

First Cycleworks ( Martin)

Martin Hammond at First Cycleworks said he is definitely open to having a Critical Mass poster. Please make sure you do get there. He used to distribute bike event promotion stuff there before when I made the posters for CM.
When I told him about what happened to Mitch- he was really touched, even though he did not ever meet him.

A recommendation

Try to focus on getting posters to bicyclists
-- or at least to (on) their bikes.

I dropped off posters at a

I dropped off posters at a few other bike stores around town today
(bike stores are generally a hub for local cyclists, a very good way to get the word out quick)  and also at the library downtown.

Jeff: I work wed at three but would be interested in going before hand if you'd like. let me know.

posters

I have dropped off  a poster at my bike store and will be postering around downtown as much as possible, as well as 'word-of-mouthing' ing it as much as possible.

I know it is possible to get a ton of riders out to this event, I'm sure we can do it!
