i am back online - road to recovery

i'm back on the lc finally ; and i would like to personally thank tarek for the generous and selfless donations of his time, energy and equipment to make this happen.... the accident caused me to be quadraplegic, so i don't have fine motor skills in  my hands.... yet.... so, along comes tarek a couple of weeks after my surgery with his laptop and a crateload of dvd movies to keep me busy anytime i didn't have visitors.... the nurses had to help me setup and start movies at first..... then, along comes tarek a couple of days later with  some assistive technology which  i have been using to gain a ton of independence using a computer....

my recovery went extremely well and now i  journey onward  through the rough waters of rehabilitation...... just 2  days ago i put down the 1 lb weight so  that i could start benchpressing  a whoopping   2 lb  instead....  hey, i'lm just lucky and happy to be alive with all my brain functions intact....

i'd like to encourrage visits and phone calls....

thx again   to all those who have  helped thru visits, prayers, and gifts.

yours in solidarity,

mitch brogan

mitch's court date tomorrow

Hey all,

Mitch wanted me to  let you know that the first court appearance of the woman who caused Mitch's accident is scheduled for tomorrow at 9:30 AM in Room 2 of the Courthouse.  I'm not actually sure where the courthouse is, so if anyone would like to fill in, go ahead.

Mitch himself will not be able to attend; his lawyer will be present, however, and if anyone else can come and show solidarity with Mitch (give the woman an evil eye, that kinda thing),  I'll most likely see you there, coffee in hand...

What's the charge?

Does anyone know what she's been charged with? I hope it's more than drinking and driving! For those of us who can't go to the court, can someone please post details afterwards? Thanks!

update from court re: mitch

Hello everyone,

I don't have much of an update.  I went to court today.  Dawn Chrisjohn was scheduled to appear in Court Room "A" for disclosure.

Disclosure is when the crown attorney (prosecutor) give the defense attorney the evidence that will be used.  A law student friend of mine told me that most often the defendant will not show up for that, only their attorney will be present.

Court Room "A" was not a court room the last time I went to the court house, it was a tiny office.  So they don't let people sit around inside.  We sat outside and waited to see if we could see her, but we did not.  When they called a lunch break we decided to leave.

I spoke to Mitch on the phone today.  He told me that his lawyer told him that the woman did not appear, only her lawyer did.  He also told me that in addition to being charged with driving over the legal limit, she has been charged with operating a vehicle causing bodily harm.  The court roster listed her for four charges, but didn't say what they were.

Incidently, if you plan on going to court for the next appearance or anything else, take stock of what you're carrying.  Since the last time I was there, they've installed airport style metal detectors.  I had to hide my multitool outside.

yup.. thats court

thats been in effect for quite sometime now.  I'm pretty sure its all provincial and federal court houses.. I was in court with Jerry in T.O. .. and the guard at the door pulled a "supertroopers" style game.. funny shit..good thing I left my guns and bombs at his house that morning..

any news on the next court appearance?

Mike McGregor's picture

since 2003 at least...

...Maybe earlier. When I was dealing with my charges from Quebec City and T.O, there was metal detectors at the entrances to the Old City Hall court house. I don't remember weather or not the same type of security was present at the Palais de justice...  I wrapped both those up in 2003.  They've had metal detectors at the London courthouse for a while too, I remember going through them to pick up a resident from work one time....

And yea, The officer at the entrance in T.O. (jokingly) asked "Any knives? Needles? Guns? Hand Grenades?" when the metal detector went off...

"panties"

the guard when I was in, asked everyone to "pull up your panties!" .. Jerry confronted him on it and the whole crew of guards burst out laughing.. made my morning!

My guess

I would imagine that the charge would be criminal negligence causing bodily harm.  If so the maximum sentance would be 10 years, although such an outcome would be unlikely.

courthouse

It's right across from museum London, on dundas street. You can't miss it.  It's the building covered in surveillance cameras with the melted looking scuptures out front.

Mitch I am so happy to hear

Mitch I am so happy to hear you are alive and kicking! I don't even know you but it threw me for a tailspin when I heard you had been hurt. But here's to you, and to everything! I'd love to meet you soon.

Update on Mitch

I was just chatting with Mitch on the phone and he had some wonderful news.

Firstly, i  want to remind people of something I was ignorant to and would suspect many others would be as well. The post that Mitch made took him a very long time. Although the assistive technology he is using has helped him access greater levels of communication and entertainment, it is extremely time consuming.  This highlights one of the many lessons I have learned from Mitch as of late. He has shown a level of patience that would make the Dalai Lama proud.

That being said, Mitch now has a room in Parkwood. This is great news. For the past week he was informed that he would probably have to go Toronto for his rehabilitation. This caused him a great deal of stress... But fortunatley this is not the case. YEAH.

Happy to hear your sticking around Mitch.

Monday

See you Monday.

And don't worry about them taking you to Toronto.  We'll drive up there and bring you back ourselves if we have to, and pitch you a tent and air mattress in Parkwood until they give you a bed.

Anything you want me to bring you from downtown, food wise, on Monday?  Your wish is my command.

Glad to see your positive attitude

Hey Mitch!

It is extremely uplifting to hear from you, and even more so to see that you have such high spirits.

We all tend to the negative so often in our lives, and often focus on our inabilities rather than on what we are able to do.  It's just really inspirational to see you powering through with your chin up.  I have no doubt that you will surpass all expectations with that mental fortitude behind you!

Thanks Mitch!  You know you got all of our support.

Aaron.

Today 2 pounds.. tomorrow 2.5!

I'm so happy to see you online, Mitch!! woohoo!!! As for those weights, don't sweat them! I've been trying to get to 2.5 lbs for years, and have never made it..

Thanks for giving us strength,

tarek : )

Jeff P.'s picture

YEAH MITCH!

YES, we have contact! Thank-you Tarek.

Each time I visit your pad, you amaze me at how fast you are recovering. With your will of a rhino you will be wheelin your way around in no time. Any word on openings at Parkwood? I was thinking we could take a spin on one of the frozen ponds, behind the rehab centre, come january that is. Or maybe a brisk a stroll would be sufficient. your call. Any luck with getting Civilization working? If not, I can bring you any other games you would enjoy. Yo trev, you know a lot about the gaming situation on computers. what is a good Civ. type game that plays well on linux (not freeciv but something along those lines).

I'm stoked that you're online man. Let us know what we can do to help you out.

I will drop in very soon.

Hey Hey TO MITCH!

This makes my day!

Hey Mitch,

glad to see you back on the cyber community!

Thanks for the Ottawa number last week - I can tell it's going to be handy already.

Can we bring you some good 'ol Flavor's food for breakfest this Saturday?

What time would be best?

peace,

Dan

Mitch is stoked about the possiblity of a flavours breakfest. He's getting really tired of the mini cereal boxes. I'm heading up on thursday if you want to join me.

Flavours Friday?

Hey Jeff, I emailed Jeremy (who never checks his messages - yeah Jer: check yer fuckn  box!) about going Friday.  Shannon said  she  might be able to give us a ride down so the food don't get cold.  I can't make it thursday but if you want check with Shannon and see what would be the best day for her, go for it thursday with the food if it works better.
