Drawing for Mitch

I began this drawing when I didn't know what else I could do to help him recover. It made me think about how drawing is a bit like praying, focusing thought and energy towards a goal.

can't get over it
I just can't get over how beautiful and powerful this image is.
I just think it's fantastic .
I can't stop admiring it.
Jen,
I think the memento thing is a really interesting concept.
Do you have any others you have drawn about other friends?
also,
Do you have any art shows coming up?

more drawings
Hi Rachel,
I'm glad its stuck in your mind so strongly, that must mean i did something right.
I've done a couple other memento drawings but none of them are quite as fully formed as this one; there are more waiting at the back of my mind though.
My website is up and running (mostly), check it out for more images www.jenniferrobertson.net.
As for the shows... theres going to be a short little one at The Art Exchange in the summer, and other than that... well, i've got a bunch of applications out in the mail...
Do you guys still get together for Women's Artist Collective activities? I've been meaning to get out to some of those.
By the way, Mike, they are mostly ink (black and coloured), pencil, and pencil crayon.

These must have gone up while I was away, because I don't know how else I could have possibly missed them.

detail
Thanks for the positive feedback, Mike!
Here is a detail of the text. It says "triple-step, triple-step, rock-step". Mitch and I were learning to swing dance in the summer, and those are the basic steps to follow when dancing. To the left of that it says Lumbar, Dorsal etc, the names of sections of the spinal column. Yes, that is a piece of his hair in the center, a little bit of voodoo.
I've been making these "memento" drawings of a lot of people I know, using the paisley shape to represent a person's identity. A kind of a soul space in the center, with layers of ornamentation, like the layers a person builds up around themselves, layers of protection from the outside world, of experience and wisdom, memories. Its part of a larger project using textile patterns to explore behaviour patterns, rituals, habits etc, anything reinforced by repetition. I'll post a few more so you can get an idea. I'm in the middle of getting a proper website built, it should be up in a few weeks.
Wow
Incredible...
Hi Jen. This drawing is absolutely incredible. Awesome!
Holy Crap!
That is excellent. Can you post a higher resolution scan or a bigger picture of this? It looks like there's writing on the ribs, but I can't make it out... Also If you have any other stuff like this, I hope you'll post it up too!
