Metropolis
I just watched the German film Metropolis (1927) for my film class, and I must say that I was completely blown away. It is hardly believable that it was made in 1927 with its visual technology and relevancy of its ideological message to the present society. And its spiritual anti-authoritarian message was so powerful. There were tons of other wicked anti-facism, pro-worlers implications in the film.
I also read the article about the movie after, and found out that some critisized the movie very harshly, for instance HG Wells described it as the siliest film ever, but some phraised it. There was also division between critics about weather the it is a communist film or a socialist film. And the most notably, and real oddly, Hitler liked the film and asked the director to make nazi propaganda films, which he refused and fled germany afterwards leaving his wife who eventually joins Nazi party after he fled (some heavy story here...)
If you haven't watch this frilm, I heavily encourage to pick it up. And if you have watched it before I would like to hear some thoughts on it.

speaking of metropolis
my band has been lately wanting to do a live score playing along to a silent movie. we practised a couple times to Metropolis, but decided a 90 minute film was maybe a little too long.
anyone have a suggestion for a shorter alternative?
classic
I saw this classic in film class a few years back as well. A very powerful film. Many early techniques of propaganda. How ever you interpret it, you can't walk away unaffected. I would also recommend it to everyone.
