Revision of Trying something new (to me)... from January 19, 2007 - 4:06am

I recently watched the movie Scanner Darkly (based on the Philip K. Dick novel of the same title), which uses a film technique called 'rotoscoping'. I thought it was pretty neat, so I thought I'd give it a try on one of my slides. I think the original picture was taken at a Housing demonstration in August of 2001, but I'm not exactly sure... I used a .005 tip marker to go over the edges of a few of the subjects in the foreground of the actual slide. For a first try, I think it's A-O.K, but I think I could do better after a couple more tries... I also want to try the it on a photo negative by scratching the emulsion, and rotoshoping (using photoshop to trace the edges with the brush tool or maybe the 'find edges' function).

Does anyone know where I can find markers with tips finer then .005?

This was a quick stab at it. I found it's best not to go back over details I've already picked out, and small details like eye glasses and hair are best left alone, yet folds and seams in clothing look kind of neat when they get picked out.

I think I'm gonna play around with this somemore!
