Suggestions for telephone service providers...

So, the post about the Vonage situation got me thinking. I agree with Jeremy that their service is brutal. Eventhough Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) has a number of draw backs, the cost savings is more than worth it.
What phone service do you use? Anyone have suggestions for other VOIP phone companies? I want to leave Vonage but I don't know about many reliable alternatives...
Cheers
Jeff

homebrew voip
just to one up the discussion here.. if you're really adventurous, you can try making a homebrew VOIP setup. its featured on hak.5 episode 2x03 .. the wiki on it is here
the episode where they explain it can be found here
you still need a provider though..but this method is WAY cheaper than other VOIP providers, and its opensource, and alot more customizable...

Amateur radio enthusiasts use VOIP applications such as EchoLink and IRLP (Internet Repeater Linking Project) to talk with one another around the world using little handheld radio transcievers. Handheld radios are low powered and transmit in the VHF and UHF bands, so they aren't normally suitable for global communications. However, in an effort to extend range, operators often commission repeater stations that anyone may use. Transmit on a given frequency and the repeater using that frequency receives and retransmits your signal, albeit at higher output power and normally from a much more elevated position.
IRLP makes use of VOIP to link repeaters around the world. All one needs do is tune to an IRLP equipped repeater and enter a routing code. The repeater will then link to the target repeater elsewhere. It will retransmit on the target machine what it receives through the VOIP connection (and vice-versa). There are IRLP "nodes" the world over including Antarctica!
You'll need an Amateur Radio Certificate of Proficiency to obtain a radio and use this technology, but they are not difficult to obtain (NO, you DON'T have to know Morris code). Anyone interested in learning more or getting a "ticket" may feel free to contact me.
Cheers
