Sweat Lodge Ceremony

Hey commoners,

I am in the process of organizing a sweat lodge ceremony for us all. It will be just outside of the city and there will be a offering as well as a request for everyone to help out with the preperation. For those of you who don't know what a sweat lodge is... it is a traditional method of cleansing our bodies of toxins, our minds negativity, and lift our spirits to new levels of self and universal awareness. through sweating and meditative prayer, as a group we will cleanse ourselves of the toxic, western, self-destructive lifestyle and come into a healthy and balanced relationship with ourselves and each other, the earth, and everything.

Please leave some comments and suggestions for this. The person guiding our ceremony is a wonderful man that apparently adds a very appropirate and creative twist to sweat. I am thinking we should do it either the 1st or 2nd weekend of october.

Sweatlodge Ceremony
October 21 10am-7pm

We have up to 7 spots available for a sweatlodge happening at the Oneida reserve 10 mins SW of London. We will be going in a van and price will be determined by how many of us there are. If 6 of us go it will be about 55$ each, while if 10 of us go it will only cost about 33$ each. Our goal is 12-15, and that would be under 25$ per person.
Included in the price is the fee for Glen who guides and facilitates the ceremony in his backyard, the fee for the fire keeper, the offerings (smoked fish and berries), several gallons of spring water, firewood and gas money. We will also have to gather 28 grandfathers (rocks).
Each person should bring: at least two (one good and one old) towels, shorts for males, a nightgown/shift dress for females, a warm coat, personal water and a potluck dish. We will also need a few plates, cutlery and napkins. The potluck will be mostly vegetarian and vegan stuff that doesn’t need to be cooked there. A thermos of hot liquid would be good too.
This is a great opportunity to experience a sweat with others who are doing it for the first time, and the price is really good. We have to ask that if you plan to attend, the sweat requires us to be clean for 7 full days (no drugs/booze after the 13th). We will be picking people up downtown at 10am Sunday the 21st. that's awesome! I have been thinking about that lately. I remember the sweat Jeff organized in his backyard on dufferin. The farm we just buildt an earthen oven at, near guelph, hosts regular traditional sweats in the woods on there property. gathering of the good minds

either day is good with me, although we had originally thought of sundays. by the way, I have heard that the Gathering of the Good Minds is happening next week, from the 21-23, most events are at Museum London. Unfortunatley there's no info on the web, but I have been to this before and its really good, and its free. Alanis Obomsawin and Lee Maracle are going to be there. It's put on by Dan and Marylou Smoke. So juggle your time between Lola (the 20-22) and don't miss it!
