Yup, another linux thread... wawawa

So, 10 days til the new Ubuntu linux comes out.. with their (IMO revolutionary, and fully competitive) release, named Gutsy Gibbon..

I've been using the beta version on my laptop for a couple weeks now, and I have to say, I'm WAY too impressed with this.. I haven't been this impressed since OS/2 warp version 4!!

Some great new features:

  • Bulletproof X - never have to worry about your computer booting to a blankscreen
  • Screen and Graphics settings GUI - this will help with windows users making the switch, it provides an easier configuration of the graphical interface, without having to manually edit confusing config files.
  • Compiz-fusion - EYE CANDY!!!  this is better than vista's aero, and OSX visual enhancements.  some useless features, but also some slick and useful window management.

It also seems to run alot faster than the previous release.  Also, all my hardware seemed to work right from the standard install.. I didn't have to run any drivers, or have to hack my way into it working, like most linux users are more than familiar with.

It also supports the new Intel Santa Rosa chips, which are hot these days..so thats cool too..

here's a screenshot of my setup(big)
