This is just a heads up that there will be some sort of action by concerned parents and members of the Old East Village community against the possible closing of Lorne Ave. Public school. It is scheduled for January 21, at the Thames Valley School Board at Dundas and Highbury. I'm waiting for more details about the time and other stuff, from a friend whose kids go to the school. I'll be sure to post them when i know more. So keep January 21 in your minds if you want to come join the fun. I also heard something about closing the library on Quebec street too! We need to keep our schools and libraries up and running!
Thanks for listening,
Elizabeth Tellier

I am in the process of figuring out how to get one of those nifty "lorne ave - the heart of Old east" signs people have on their lawns.

'Save the Heart' Signs
You mean this sign? I'd suggest that you call OEVCA 's Annecke Somann (519-850-1667).

Cheers!
Thanks for the info.
I was just talking to my friend Char about the situation with the school and she was telling me that the decision is being made based on the low number of student 'heads' in the school. Lower enrollment is becoming a problem in a lot of schools. But the great thing about Lorne Ave is that it provides a space for some great community services like the ESL program and an alternative highschool, the latter of which has already been forced to leave the building, which seems to indicate the school board's intentions for shutting Lorne Ave down.
Char was telling me that the action on the January 21st would take the shape of a march from the school, to the School Board Office and a big party in the parking lot. She was telling me about another school in London that was kept open after community members protested. After talking with Char for about an hour about this yesterday, i'm really excited to get out there and support the parents that really love the school.
Oh the joy of my soul, it is uncaged.
lawn placards
yeah rachel i've seen those signs too, let me know where we can get one. i think my parents would love one.
