fund raising/donation gathering event?
Maybe we could brain-storm some ideas for events to try to bring in some donations of ca$h or supplies to send down. There's alwase the ol' benifit show, or the tried and true pot-luck event... any other ideas?

It just got worse.
Dalton McGuinty has called off negotiations with Six Nations as the protest has "exhausted his patience", he has now delivered an ultimatum of several criteria that must be met before negotiations will resume if all barricades come down immediately and Six Nations co-operate with police into the investigation of the recent car-jacking incident. Somethings got to give here... if not it seems likely that the police will be moving in.

lets try this again
You may have noticed an upsurge in calls for the removal of "criminals" from the reclamation site and for a Military presence in Caledonia. I think it's important to speak out against this heavy-handed approach.
Illegal and Immoral are not always the same thing
Letters of outrage at the "illegal" tactics of Six Nations protesters in Caledonia Ontario keep popping up here on the opinion page. Somehow the assertion that protesters trespassing and blocking a highway are as threatening to peace and good order are the same as burglars or terrorists, seems overly simplistic and hollow. Especially when history is full of people breaking laws for a greater good.
It was once illegal to assist slaves fleeing the American south, but some people did it anyway. The sit-ins of the Civil-Rights Movement undoubtedly involved trespassing. Serbian dictator Slobodan Milošević's regime was toppled by mass-demonstrations which were deemed illegal by the government of the time. A similar scene played out in Nepal, culminating with steps being taken to return power to an elected body. Right here in London, the 2-week illegal occupation of Campbell Memorial Park in 2001 resulted in the establishment of a much-needed shelter for the homeless.
Now that negotiations have resulted in the removal of the barricade on Argyle St, more and more hysterical calls for a military solution are surfacing. These calls seem reflect an ugly sentiment: 'we have stolen this land fair and square and we should not give it back', no matter how much force is required to remove "trespassers". Argyle St. is open, the power is back on... So, why now is the Army needed?
Sometimes, people need to break the law to affect the end a greater injustice. If returning to the Six Nation's camp near Caledonia make me a criminal in the eyes of some, so be it.

letter
I cut it out and put it on my fridge.
yay mike!
well done
Right on Mike.
I'm assuming this is a letter you have sent to the free press?(or, hopefully, will)
Very well written.
I have been meaning to write in for a while, and now, after the terrible article in yesterday's paper by Chirstine Blizzard, I feel it is all the more important to be heard on this issue.
As someone who has been down to the reclamation site and has fostered some friendships with them, it makes me sick to my stomach to read some of the outrageous racist bullshit being published in 'our' newspapers. (not as bad as the article I read in the toronto sun yesterday though)
I think more of us should be taking a verbal stance whenever possible.
This situation continues to escalate and could very easily be "another Ipperwash", if not worse.
Let's hope not.

As a non-native who has been to the land reclamation site many time I can’t say enough how peaceful the people of Six Nations have been even with the threat and reality of violence they have faced. Shame on Canada! Please take the time to contact your MPP and let them know you support the Six Nations people’s actions, for the provincial government to buy the land from the developer, and return it to Six Nations.

car to Six Nations on tuesday.
I Think I'll be heading down tuesday, coming back on wednesday. 2-3 spots left (depends on how comfortable peeps in the back seat want to be. PM me or email me through the site, or get hold of rachel. Gas $$ and some supplies for the camp would be helpful (ie. first aid stuff, food, water...)

Still a go...
My ride is still a go so far, dispite todays tension at the site (Check CBC if you don't know what I'm talking about.) I still have 2-3 seats and room for supplies.
NOW would be a great time for you to stand up against Racisim that has shown itself again today, be it with your presence or with a show of support by sending Supplies (First Aid Supplies, Food stuffs, Water, camping gear, or any of the items off Rachel's list...
Thanks,
Mike.
