I don't know how long this has been available, but last time I checked Google Earth maps of London were only medium-resolution. Now all of London is available in quite high resolution. Check it out:

The images themselves are at least a year old, since I'm not seeing the play structure built in the park on Adelaide/Kipps near where I live. But unless I've just been missing it, I think it's only come online recently.
Should be useful for some people.
