Civility standards

Shouldn't some sort of explanation at least be given? -- about each post that is deemed to be a violation of the rules? Otherwise I think that people are going to assume that they're going to be subjected to the personal whims of the moderators -- especially since there hasn't been a response to Jeff's request for an explanation.

What sort of discussions are bound to happen then? -- if people think that they're under the heel of arbitrary power.

The 4 posts from Jeff have been deemed to be 'uncivil' in a very casual way that makes it seem like there aren't any solid standards here. The titles and links have just been tossed in without any explanation.

If he violated rules I think that people here should be told how he did that.

As I said in my last comment, I don't want to be in a conflict with anyone here. I just happen to think that this is important.

I'll also add that I don't think that I've just been posting about Jeremy's approach, since there are other London Commons organizers who could at least respond in these threads. The other organizers also have reached spoken and unspoken agreements about how to run this site. Basically it's the way that this site is run that I'm questioning, rather than any particular individuals.

Also amusing

Jeremy, could you please have the basic decency to explain yourself when you are wielding such authority? You have just lumped four responses in one giant category without explaining a thing. Do you not see a problem with this? seriously.

In addition, "there is this nagging in my memory" (used by you in your civility warning to Dan) that our old friend Bertrand had something to say about all of this.

"Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin
-- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary,
destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege,
established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the
pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the
light of the world, and the chief glory of man."
Bertrand Russell

If censorship is a part of this site, then why
not write it down explicitly so people can actually know what the rules
are? If there is no way to know the rules, then such disciplinary
actions are being are arbitrarily enforced. Arbitrary enforcement is one of the definite signs of fascism. Again, I am addressing your words not you personally which means I have not broken any rules that are publicly known. Unless, disagreeing with you is against the rules. Is that the case Jeremy?
