       Guest Speakers:  Irene Mathyssen (our NDP Member of Parliament for London-Fanshawe),  RachelOakes (the Fanshawe Student Union VP External), CathieAuger (the Fanshawe College Vice President of Students Affairs) as well asrepresentives from the Ontario Legislature and the Fanshawe Faculty..  

         -> The Fanshawe Day of Actionis part of a province wide Dayof Action to Drop Tuition Fees. It is organized by the Fanshawe Social Justice Club, the Fanshawe New Democrats and the Fanshawe Student Union.  There will be rallies, demonstrations and protests on campuses across Ontario on November 5th. For more information please visit www.dropfees.ca 

       BackgroundInformation:

       The Ontario government fundspost-secondary education at the lowest per-student rate in Canada, and amongthe lowest in North America. This has resulted in our government allowing forfee hikes of 4.5% to 8% at universities and colleges, funding cuts at programs,and students taking out every increasing loans.

     McGuinty's fee hikes are out of step with themajority of provinces in Canada that have frozen or reduced tuition fees. It'sof step with jurisdictions around the world that have taken steps to eliminatefinancial barriers entirely like Ireland, Brazil and Sweden. Most important itis out of step with what the majority of Canadian, Ontarians and studentsdemand.
     On November 5th students and community members will betaking to the streets to ensure that the provincial government can no longerignore it's citizens and slowly privatize education.
