Buy Nothing Day REALLY REALLY FREE MARKET & BARTER MARKET

Come celebrate Buy Nothing Day with us!   The entire SUB building will be turned into a massive Really Really Free market and barter market.  We're taking back our school and holiday season from the greedy corporations who are currently in control.  We will be continually liberating spaces at Fanshawe in order for genuine non-commercial relationships to flourish in.  This buy nothing day we invite all students and everyone in the community to join us as we take Forwell hall and turn it into a living example of a society based on gift-giving and mutual aid rather than capitalism.  The biggest focus of our event will be the really really free market.

The Really, Really Free Market (RRFM) movement is a non-hierarchical collective of individuals who form a temporary market based on an alternative gift economy.[1]The RRFM movement aims to counteract capitalism in a non-reactionary way. It holds as a major goal to build a community based on sharing resources, caring for one another and improving the collective lives of all. Markets often vary in character, but they generally offer both goods and services. Participants bring unneeded items, food, skills and talents such as entertainment or haircuts. A RRFM may take place in an open community space such as a public park or community commons.

Althogh we encourage everyone to bring things to give away for free, we aknowledge that many will want to barter so there wlll be a simultaneous barter market. Please identify your table as barter or free in order to avoid confusion, we will do our best to group tables accordingly.  While all the gift-giving and bartering is going on we will have film screenings and a guest speaker about consumerism. and the waste it generates.    Come help us take back our school and create community this Buy Nothing Day!  Contact the Fanshawe Social Justice Club to reserve a table at fanshawesocialjusticeclub@yahoo.ca  Everything that is leftover at the end of the day will be donated to Fanshawe's ' Free store' the sharing shop.   Come share what you have and take things you need.   Cook something, draw something, sing something, play something,  make something, BUY NOTHING!
