We are also introducing newly formed Cordinators Commmitee, and dicussing our exiting future plans, including what commitees/working groups the project members are interested in pursuing and what events we can hold in future such as film-screeening, speakers, and etc as an bit early head start of they year 2009!
Date: Wednesday, November 19
Location: - The East Village Arts Coop - 757 Dundas east
Time: 7:00pm
Reading: Jerry Fresia, A Call to Artists: Support Parecon
In this article Fresia challenges the institutional hierarchy of the arts industry that undermines artists' creative autonomy in favor of both finaincial and cultural elites.
He suggest Parecon as the alternative model of arts production, which reclaims artists' autonomy, and re-establishes their connection with public sphere and a community.
This is very interesting to read, and highly relevant to the new arts cooperative being initiated in our community by like minded artists, where we are having the meeting!
"It it is important, I believe, to explore further the artistic sensibilities that were wide spread 100 years ago, sensibilities that suggested revolutions required dancing, that suggested that if what we create is not a better world, what is the point of our work? Creating better institutions, ones in which our voices are heard meaningfully is both our responsibility and a pragmatic solution."
Hope to see you there!

superb!
what a fantastic article, it drew out some really clear connections for my brain, so preoccupied with the co-op.
