Today in Montreal.....

Hello all...

As some of you know i am in montreal for a while on the U of M campus trying to improve my french.. (which is going very well)... I checked out the internet for something interesting to do this weekend and found that a rally was being held in outrage of the harper government and it's lack of support to help put an end to the war/killing/crimes/hate going on between israel,lebanon,palestine,usa... i was super hyped to go out....

After getting to the rally and hearing the agressive, angry and hateful chants .. i attempted to  shout chants for peace and non violence .... and eventually just focused on trying to capture this whole thing on film...

i can't imagine the pain of these people being pushed to such anger.

there were people arguing with each other... but this was not in english or french... it seemed that there were several women that did not like the idea of generalizing all of israel as terrorist murders... with this i agree.

the photo that i find the most disturbing was the little girl. she was very happily pushing her baby doll down the street and as i went closer i saw the sign that said "Stop killing our children"  and her doll had a bullet hole in its head and was covered in blood.

check out the pictures yourself and please do tell me what you think.

let me remind you.. I am not here to judge.

Problematic

There is, I fear a connection being drawn between being critical of the Israeli government and being anti-semitic.  It's a false connection, of course: I'm critical of the Israeli government in the same way as I'm critical of the American government -- and for many of the same reasons.  Of course, I don't see myself as anti-semitic or anti-American.

My major concern about the current criticism of Israel is that it is so easily co-opted by people who hate Jews.

This worries me.
