That Critical Mass thread got me thinking... Know what this town hasn't seen in a while? A good ol'fashioned Anti-Oppression workshop. Ya know? The kind that examines how common these issues can be in progressive communities? teaches us tools to be introspective, honestly self-critical and helps us realise what we need to address in ourselves? The kind that teaches us to recognise oppressive behaviours from our friends and allies and how to constructively address them? That would be neat.
In the mean time, here's a few links that seemed relevant to me:
United Students Against Sweatshops organizes two conferences every year where students from all over Canada and the US are invited. We get together to talk about social justice issues, mostly based around labor rights. This three day summer conference is an excellent opportunity for people new to USAS to come and learn about some of the campaigns that are being run to use student power to fight for human rights. See the website for more details and registration.
