Feminist Zine

tags:

I'm interested in starting up a feminist zine in London. The zine would focus on young women and the issues that we face that aren't covered by the mainstream media. If you are interested in helping me out with this project, please contact me at erikao7@hotmail.com

New Year, New Art Venue!

tags:

I learned last week that "Imagine", the boutique gallery I am part of is slated to close at the end of the month. It didn't really have much of a chance. Rents there were high and the community was just not supporting the store. Sales were very limited throughout the holiday buying season.

Feeling that I would  prefer to be seen than not, I immediately started  to identify a new venue. I am pleased to say that those who have enjoyed seeing my work at Imagine can now see my encaustics and acrylics at "Artworks, Etc." Dundas at Richmond (on Richmond north of the bank). I am bringing in several new encaustics based on an environmental theme over the next few weeks.  read more »

"Artrageous" is outrageous!

Let me begin by stating that I am no fan of the Arts Project here in London. It is my position, and one shared by CARFAC, the visual artists' professional association, that artists are entitled to earn a living wage.  It has been recognized that artists are, sadly, the most poorly paid of all professionals.

Organizations such as the Arts Project perform, in my opinion, a disservice to artists. They use up scarce public resources that would be better-used to fund artists and their work. They actually charge artists considerable fees to display work. A month at the Arts Project would cost an artist around $1500! Many reputable galleries now pay artists to exhibit based on a schedule devised by CARFAC in conjunction with many galleries.  read more »

Penpals

tags:

Here's a question.   Does anyone know of a good site or way to get a foreign penpal?   The snail-mail kind?   I know there are a ton of sites for penpals, but most of the ones I've seen are e-mail, and many don't seem legit.   If anyone knows of, or has experienced the process of getting a foreign penpal, could you let me know?   Thanks!

Kate

hey, everybody!?

it has been a while, since i last communicated with anyone extensively. what's new? this site is a great tool to stay connected. I must say I am impressed with all that has been done, since I've returned to Halifax. Like Circa and the Mindfulness gatherings.... tres cool.

i've been doing my annual debate about the holidayz, untop of that debate my mobility is also hampering any chance of travelling to far off London. Bikes and cars do not work well together. So the idea of travelling right now is far from appealing. Also, school work has been extended because i missed the last couple weeks of school, as a result of the accident.  read more »
